Canadian mail and courier charges
- CBSA reviews all international mail and decides whether goods may enter and whether duty or tax applies.
- For mailed goods, CBSA describes a general CAN$20 duty-and-tax exemption, with exclusions; above that, applicable charges can apply to the full value.
- GST plus PST or HST may apply depending on the province or territory and the imported goods.
- The CAN$60 gift relief is for a genuine gift sent personally by a friend or relative; an online purchase or business shipment does not become a gift.
- Courier brokerage or clearance fees are separate commercial charges from government duty and tax.
Prepare a shipment to Canada
- Use accurate descriptions, quantities, values, and country of origin when known
- Keep purchase receipts in case CBSA or the carrier requests valuation evidence
- Budget for provincial tax and possible carrier clearance fees, not just Customs Duty
- Check food, plant, animal, cosmetic, and regulated products before combining them with ordinary merchandise
Group orders and Canadian import value
A consolidated fandom box is assessed as one import shipment. Hosts should keep item-level member records, declare purchases truthfully, and account for GST/HST/PST and carrier charges before promising a final per-member total.
Official customs sources
Rules, thresholds, carrier procedures, and government measures can change. The destination authority—not ThaiFanShip—makes the final import decision.
Frequently asked questions
Is a parcel under CAN$20 always exempt?
CBSA describes a general exemption for qualifying mailed items worth CAN$20 or less, but exclusions and different courier rules can apply. Check the current official guidance for the exact shipment.
Can my purchase use the CAN$60 gift exemption?
No, not simply because it is for someone else. CBSA says the relief is for a genuine personal gift from a friend or relative and excludes business-sent items.
Are courier fees the same as customs tax?
No. CBSA notes that brokerage and clearance fees charged by couriers or brokers are separate from government duty and taxes.
