Singapore GST and low-value goods
- Singapore Customs defines low-value goods as items with an individual sales value of S$400 or less imported by air or post.
- A GST-registered overseas seller or marketplace may charge GST at checkout for qualifying low-value goods.
- If GST was not collected at sale, import GST can be collected when the shipment's total CIF value exceeds S$400.
- Goods from the same consignor to the same importer arriving on the same flight may be treated as one import even under separate airway bills.
- Liquor, tobacco, controlled goods, and prohibited goods follow separate duty, permit, or import requirements.
Prepare a Singapore-bound shipment
- Keep invoices showing whether Singapore GST was already collected
- Calculate the combined Cost, Insurance and Freight value after consolidation
- Use accurate item descriptions and retain proof of the actual sales value
- Check controlled goods and permit requirements before requesting outbound shipping
Consolidated collector orders to Singapore
Consolidation can reduce freight for albums, boxsets, photocards, and concert goods, but the combined CIF value affects import GST handling. Keep checkout tax records so the courier can resolve any apparent duplicate GST charge.
Official customs sources
Rules, thresholds, carrier procedures, and government measures can change. The destination authority—not ThaiFanShip—makes the final import decision.
Frequently asked questions
Does Singapore charge GST on items below S$400?
It can. A GST-registered overseas seller or marketplace may collect GST at checkout for each qualifying low-value item, while import collection depends on how the sale and shipment were handled.
What happens after I consolidate parcels?
The goods travel as one shipment, so use the combined CIF value when considering import GST and clearance.
What if GST appears to be charged twice?
Keep the invoice showing GST paid at checkout and provide it to the courier or SingPost using the process described by Singapore Customs.
